I-270 BASKETBALL

DSA Participates in the I-270 Sports Club Basketball League. There are three teams having the following age groups: Bantams - 8-10 years old, Juniors - 11-12 years old, and Seniors - 13-14 years old. The coaches, with their assistant and independent evaluators, hold tryouts for the three age groups. Tryouts begin during mid October each year. Regular season games begin in mid November and playoff games are scheduled for March. The I-270 Sports Club has separate Board of Directors that includes the DSA Basketball Commissioner. The registration fee goes to the I-270 Sports Club and not to DSA. However, it is DSA who pays for practice gym rental, basketballs, and other operating costs. Uniforms are provided and must be returned following the last game.  These expenses are offset through sponsors, a rebate from the I-270 Sports Club, Hoopsters League and the Hornets Summer Basketball Camp.

Players and parents must understand that I-270 has no "must play" rule. Although coaches are encouraged to play all players as much as possible, there is no minimum playing time. The I-270 league is very competitive and has a history of developing the future stars for high school and college programs.

RISING STAR BASKETBALL
DSA sponsors Rising Star teams for boys and girls in grades 6, 7, and 8th. The Montgomery County Recreation Department runs the Rising Star Basketball League. The Damascus coaches, with their assistant and independent evaluators, hold tryouts for the six teams beginning mid to the end of October each year. Games begin in January lasting through March. Uniforms are provided and must be returned following the last game. The fee covers league fees, gym rentals and other associated operating expenses.

Players and parents must understand that Rising Star has no "must play" rule. Although coaches are encouraged to play all players as much as possible, there is no minimum playing time. The league is very competitive, but typically has a wide range of talent.

HOOPSTERS
DSA Basketball has an instructional basketball league that teaches younger players the basic fundamentals of basketball skills and rules to prepare for playing games. This league is held during the winter, beginning in December. Players who are in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades are eligible to register. The league lasts 12 weeks and each participant receives a basketball and Hoopsters T-shirt. The league is taught by the DSA coaches and former I-270 players who strive to create a structured learning yet energetic environment. The registration fee covers gym rental, a basketball and a Hoopsters T-shirt. The Hoopsters program is a fundraiser for DSA Basketball. The Hoopster Basketball League will be held December through February. Registration will be in November.
